Friday The 13th Bren’s Blog: Friday the 13th. For a band with a name like ours I suppose you'd think that it'd be an omen of good luck for us. And, as it turned out, that proved to be the case.... Thankfully, Guildford isn't that far from where we started our day so the journey was quite short. This was a good thing as the weather was decidedly... well... hot. Bloody hot actually. Windows down. We'd been told rumours of rain, which usually indicates that the heavens will open just as we go on stage. True to form, as we arrived it started to cloud up a little. At least there was continuity. First port of call was the dressing room. The festival favourite 'portacabin' greeted us, resplendent with the usual fayre - sandwiches, water, beer and snacks. We figured that saving it all for later, and using up our catering pass was the best thing to do. The catering shack wasn't far away, so it wasn't long before we'd filled our bellies with baked potato and meatballs. We had a good amount of press to do after eating, mainly for local TV and radio. It all went very well, and had some good chats with the people who came to speak to us. We also met a chap from Hayle, Cornwall, which was good - it's always nice to bump into some Celtic brethren every now and then. It was at about this time we became aware of our Friday the 13th curse. During the morning the festival crew had been setting up the PA systems on the stages. We were opening the main stage, which was located mere metres from our backstage area, so we had a good view of what was happening. During a quiet moment, we popped over to the stage and noticed there was only a PA stack on one side of the stage. Odd, we thought. It turned out that both stacks had been erected, then had banners attached to them. Seeing as the wind had picked up, the far PA stack had effectively become a giant sail, which in turn caused the PA stack to blow over!! Eventually our time came to start the gig, and thankfully the rain didn't begin. There was a good following there for us, and we had a really good time on stage, so thanks to all you guys and gals that came to support us, and hello to anyone that hadn't seen us before. Not much happened after that really, Will and I went home, and Tom and Adam stuck around for a while. All in all though, a good day. Bren www.lewisslade.com/thirteensenses
