Day 19 - Portsmouth, Wedgewood Rooms: For me personally, this is always a great gig to play. Generally the crowd are always good, and I have loads of friends that always come along. Tonight was no different. We got picked up in London by the tour bus at 10:30am, and drove straight to the venue. We arrived about an hour early, so we all went to find some big, greasy, heart-attack food. We found an amazing greasy spooner, and indulged in a good old fry-up........growing lads 'an all. Probably going to be growing in the wrong direction before too long though. Think of the Bluetones video, where they all dress up in fat suits........ Loading in here is always nice and easy, as the entrance is right next to the road where the bus parks, and is completely flat.....bliss!! We have a couple of interviews scheduled for today, and also plenty of emails to catch up on, so we make ourselves quietly busy attending to these. Due to the venue being on a narrow main road, the tour bus can't stay parked outside, so we are forced to remain within the venue and the surrounding area. It's quite a sunny day though, so this is no problem. In the afternoon, I go with my partner to pick up her niece Amber, who is able to come along to the gig as there is no age restriction. This will be her first time, so both her and I are excited about it. The evening passes quickly as it always seems to, and before I know it, it is time to head back to the venue to prepare for the gig. For some reason I hadn't slept very well so everything about today just seemed much harder, and motivating myself was surprisingly difficult. Oh well, I hate product placement, but RED BULL is an absolute godsend for me sometimes, and it never fails to make me bright eyed and bushy tailed. We bounce onstage, and do our best to try and blow everyone away. I think it went well, but once again, I was slightly pre-occupied. As I had quite a few familiar faces in the crowd, I often find it weird/difficult, once I have spotted where they are. I then feel very strange and almost self-concious, and keep looking at them, to see if they are looking back etc..........it all gets very strange!!! It was nice to see Amber though, who almost looked bewildered, but I convinced myself she was in awe........or had wind! I hope it was the former! A fantastic gig, with a really great vibe, and a lot of happy faces after. result. www.lewisslade.com/thirteensenses
