Cologne, Germany This is probably the only European gig where I have friends that can come to the gig. I used to play for a football team in Cornwall called Alverton Athletica, and every year we would travel to Germany to play in a tournament. Over the course of many years we made some very good friends, some of which were coming along to the gig today…..it's been a good five or six years since I've seen them!! We also thing had to do a very scary thing today. Passport photo's!! It's always difficult to not look ridiculous in those, I think we just about pulled it off! To be quite honest, the main thing on our minds today wasn't how the gig was going to be, but who was going to win out of Liverpool and Chelsea in the Champions League!! The gig was another one with a great atmosphere. Nearly every night Will says something to the effect of ‘so, has anyone got our album?' which generally works in the UK but considering our album hadn't been released in Germany yet, it is often quite amusing! Still though, we are yet again blown away by the difference between British and European crowds……they really do go out for a night of music, and they really listen……it's very refreshing!! We retire to the bus early tonight, as we have to make a trip to Switzerland Tomorrow, something we are all very excited about indeed!!! Adam. Basel, Switzerland. Wow. Best, funniest and most bizarre day of the tour so far!! We arrive at the airport only to discover that this isn't a very popular destination to fly to, and that we'd be on a very small plane…………doh! The flight was fine, but I did find myself staring at the tiny propeller praying that it won't stop spinning!! Let me fill you in on what we were told about today's events. We were first told that we would be doing a mimed TV performance with live vocals, to an ‘off-screen' audience of about 50 people. That soon changed to a live mimed ‘radio' performance to an audience of 50 people – about as much sense as a chocolate teapot if you ask me!! Then we arrived. We soon found out that we were doing a mimed performance with live vocals to an audience of 1500 people which wasn't going out to TV or radio, but was instead, the equivalent to a large gig! Fine, that would be more fun, but we prefer playing live obviously, but the logistics involved on this occasion meant that the venue couldn't cater for a full live performance. No problem, however, actually there was a couple!! We sent the promoters a list of equipment that we would need on stage, to give a realistic effect, prior to our arrival. This list had been almost completely ignored!! The sum total of the gear that was there, was a piano and a drum kit!! Tom and myself had to start making plans for an interesting dance routine/air guitar bonanza…….great! Fortunately some gear did turn up, so we didn't look like complete turnips, but the versions of our songs that we were due to play along to, were, in some cases, edits we had never even heard before……..it was quite amusing, learning to play your OWN songs again!! Oh well, despite the calamities involved, the actual event went rather well, and the large crowd in good spirits seemed to enjoy themselves. We had one plan after the gig. Hotel, quick drink at the bar, bath, early night. This would have been the perfect plan as we had a very early flight the next morning, but it wasn't to be. One drink soon turned into many more as we all reminisced about a great week, and we ended up turning in very late and slightly worse for wear!! The next morning I woke up covered in a brown sticky substance……I had fallen asleep on top of the complementary chocolate from the hotel, and rolled around in it a bit!! What a mess……I just hope the hotel staff realise how innocent it was!!! Next morning, flight home, feeling physically nasty but very pleased to be going back to our own beds!!!! Adam.
